Hello, I'm Beth.

I am an Oxford Mathematics graduate and experienced maths tutor, with an exceptional academic record and a particular enthusiasm for helping students achieve strong results in school and examinations.

I studied Mathematics at Balliol College, University of Oxford, achieving a First Class undergraduate degree and Distinction at Master’s level. I specialised in pure mathematics, with particular interests including graph theory, group theory and number theory.

Prior to Oxford, I achieved full marks (600/600 UMS) in A-Level Mathematics, 100% in iGCSE Mathematics, the Highest Mark in Europe for iGCSE Further Mathematics, 12 A*s at GCSE, 4 A*s at A Level and received a number of awards for both mathematical and academic achievement.

I have tutored Mathematics for 10 years, working with students from Year 7 up to GCSE and A Level. I have taught at International Maths Summer Schools and written worksheets to accompany maths textbooks.

My approach is highly individual: I aim to identify the areas where a student’s understanding is least secure, explain difficult concepts clearly and precisely, and build the confidence needed to tackle unfamiliar problems independently. I have exceptional exam techniques and strategy which helped me achieve 12 A*s (pre the numberic grading system) at GCSE and 4 A*s at A Level. I can offer my exam and revision strategies both for maths but also across the board.

For students aiming to improve their current grades, perhaps currently at a pass level or just under or higher, I focus on building confidence and enjoyment of maths questions, test technique and clever strategies for tackling even the hardest of maths questions with ease.

I've worked with students from Year 7 onwards, building strong foundations for them to succeed in GCSEs and A Levels and progress to top universities.

For students aiming for the highest grades, I particularly enjoy developing the deeper problem-solving skills that distinguish a good mathematical answer from an excellent one.

For those aiming for mathematics at university, I place a strong emphasis on understanding rather than memorisation. I want students to see the connections between ideas and understand why a method works, while also developing the accuracy, fluency and exam and interview technique required to perform at their best.
